Legally, my school considers me disabled and I have an IEP (Individualised Education Plan, a legal agreement between student, family, and school to provide accommodations). My misophonia is very severe and prevents me from having a social life and succeeding in school. I personally consider it a disability given how much it affects me. Do you think Misophonia can be a disability, if so what’s the threshold or cutoff? Do you think you fit your definition?
I think it depends on how severe it is, on whether it counts as a disability. For instance, one of my trigger sounds is whimpering, and I was only infrequently affected by it (because people tend not to whimper that often!) But now, my mum has unfortunately developed a chronic pain condition, so she frequently whimpers because she is often in pain. This is awful for me, and I’d now be much more inclined to call misophonia a disability for me.
